Attach decorative wood column to wood floor

What is recommended way to attach a decorative wood column to a wood floor? The column will be used to support a granite countertop overhang. The column will be free standing on the floor without any molding covering it. I may have access to the subfloor from the basement Underneath but I havenít checked if itís going to be directly on top of a floor joist.

Typ there is a base plate attached to the floor, then the column it attached to the base plate but a lot depends if the column is solid/hollow etc!

This is not structural item so no issues with flooring or floor structure!s
