Closet with Steel Door Frame

I have a closet with 32 door opening and folding doors. I want to replace the folding doors with a standard door (to swing out) but how do I install the hinges on the steel frame?

You will have to mount the hinges on the surface of the steel frame as mortising is quite difficult, so the gap on the hinge side will be slightly larger than normal. But, a little drilling and tapping and it's pretty easy to do. I usually drill new mounting holes in the hinges as the countersunk holes already in most hinges are too large and standard flat head screw can't recess enough.

So there is no jamb or room for a jamb?

Good idea Pilot Dane but it makes me think what is the thickness of the steel frame. If its less than 1/8” no thread will hold the door. In addition on the opposite side of the door I will have to make on the steel frame what’s required for the door knob, pretty difficult but doable..

What marksr said makes me think it will be better to install a jamb on the left/right of the steel frame which will make the opening smaller and this is not important. So instead of getting a 32” door I will get a 30”
