Heavy Dart Board

Hi - My son received a dart board (with wood cabinet) for Christmas and just went to hang it in his apartment. The instructions say don't hang it on a hollow wall. I'm not sure the board cabinet is wide enough to hit two studs, and based on the instructions I don't know if I should tell him to buy some heavy duty anchors and use those. The dart board & cabinet is certainly heavy, although people hang shelves on sheetrock walls with the proper anchors, so despite the manufacturers warning should I tell him to do it? If not, any other ideas?

Thanks,
Andy

It only needs two fasteners, in one stud. One high, one low.

Could also attach horizontal boards on surface to span the studs if the nearest one is too far off-located to do Sleeper's plan, but as it's an apartment, have to be careful as to what is allowed.

Might want to hang a piece of particle board first then the board, would same a lot of repairs from the missed shots!

We had one as kids, had it leaning up against a stove the parents were saving for some reason, it had a furniture moving pad covering it but alas, that wasn't quite sufficient. Glad that was my Dad's idea!!

Thanks for all the ideas! Agreed because it's an apartment either way in May I'll be heading over to repair some wall damage. I think we got it figured out.
