Want to install 8ft shade in yard

I have two metal poles about 18ft apart. I put up a 2X4 and installed an outside shade and of course, the 2X4 sagged and the shade fell. I can not put anything in the middle to support it. I was going to put two 2X4s together and put an 11/2 angle iron on top or bottom. Or I was wondering if a 2X6 with or without an angle iron to help support it would not sag at least for a few years. I am open to any ideas.

To span 18 feet I'd forget about regular lumber. Try heading to junk/scrap yards or metal scrap/recyclers. Look for steel ceiling trusses scavenged from old commercial buildings. They are relatively lightweight and able to span a long distance without sagging and can survive outside for a pretty long time. And, the trusses are long so it would be easy to find one at least 18'. Most will probably be way too long and need to be cut down.
