Installing dowels/rungs for a ladder
I'm replacing a ladder on my kids swingset. This is the monkey bar piece that the swings hang from. I'll buy 2 6x2s and get some dowels for the rungs. What is the best way to make the cutouts in the main beams in which to secure the dowels? I was thinking of a drill bit to cut partially through the wood then carving it out with a chistle. All suggestions are welcome.

You can use a spade bit or a hole saw on a drill to cut the holes all of the way through the 2X6s.
You don't need to chisel anything.
Cut all of the dowels the exact same length, assemble the piece on the ground, insert the dowels, and secure them with long galvanized screws driven through the side of the 2X6s into the dowels with a Phillips head bit in your drill.
Good luck!
