wax in carpet how to clean

i dropped some candle wax onto my rug help how do i clean it

 

Scrape away excess with dull knife or spoon. Vacuum. Blot from outside of affected area toward middle to prevent spreading with white rag and solvent cleaner. Solvents include rubbing alcohol, denatured alcohol, dry cleaning fluid, or other household solvent. Test first in inconspicuous are for ill effects on dye. Always blot. Never rub carpet fibers.

 

oh boy. ive done this a million times, and ive found that the *quickest* way to do it can be done without cleaners of any kind. i scrape off all the excess wax i can with a butter knife and then use either a match or a lighter and hold it just above the carpet until the wax has melted down to where you cant feel it, only about 5 seconds or so. really, the wax just disappears!
although, ive only done this where the carpet is darker than the wax, so if the wax is red and carpet is white, i dont think this would work too well. you could try it, and then use a bleach cleaner on the remaining stain maybe. but if youve got a dark carpet, there ya go

 

Using heat to remove candle wax does not remove it. It drives wax deeper into carpet fibers. Using heat also risks damaging carpet fibers, especially if holding a match or lighter above them. Carpet made from polypropylene (olefin) would most likely melt. Heat also tends to set dyes of colored candles. The Carpet Rug Institute warns against using bleach of any kind on carpet, including oxy-whatever products. Solvent cleaner like rubbing alcohol, denatured alcohol, or dry cleaning fluid will effectively remove wax and most of the time candle dye.
