Question Cleaning Futon Mattress

Does any one know how to clean a futon mattress? The mattress measures about 72" long by 32" wide and is 5" deep. My pug (Zeus) had an accident.

Check for cleaning label. If your futon can be cleaned with water-based cleaners, then an enzyme digester cleaner can be used. These are sold at pet stores for pet messes, and they are sold at hardwares and homecenters under a variety of names like OdoBan, Nature's Miracle, Out, etc. The problem is that you will be able to clean the upholstery, but you will not be able to clean the cushioning inside. Thus odor may remain.

Some futon fabrics are dry clean only. Test any DIY cleaning method first in inconspicuous area.

Washable futon covers are nice. The afford the opportunity to change your decor and also the convenience of removing them for washing. But, a pet accident or spill tends to settle not only downward but outward three to five times the size of the accident on the surface. And, there's no way to clean beneath the upholstery.
