Need help with hard water and granite

Hi,

I really need some advice on safely removing hard water stains from ganite counter tops. I've read through all the threads and great advice was given to cleaning and protecting granite in general but here I'm dealing specifically with hard water stains.

Thanks!

What color is your granite? Is it tile or slab? Was it previously sealed and, if so, how long ago and with what product (if you know)? I assume this is on a countertop right around your sink....

Marble polish can be used to buff out deposits. The polish will remove glass rings, dull spots, surface scratches, and calcium deposits. Once deposits have been removed seal countertop annually with penetrating sealer for natural stone to prevent staining.

What marble polish do you recommend for removing surface scratches and dull spots from granite?

Marbacream is one brand that comes to mind. You should be able to pick up marble polish at a home center or stone supply in your area.

Red face Thanks,

I appreciate the advice. I have Granite Slab countertops in the kitchen and bath. Tan and black earth tones... Yes, we seal it with 511 Impregnator about every 6 months as recommended by the fabricator, but I don't always seal it on time (I forget sometimes).

Test granite with water drops. If water is absorbed by the stone, then it is time to reseal. I prefer Stone Care International products. Their granite sealer is applied every one to two years depending on amout of usage of countertop. Clean and maintain granite with products recommended for natural stone.

Water Stain Removal on Granite

I wish I had seen this post way earlier.

Marble & granite are two different stones! The marble polish will not do too much for removing the water stains on granite. You will waste your time and money on the wrong products.

Please just use a clean razor and stone soap or stone cleaner. Wipe after, and thats it. Almost all water stains on granite is topical!

If it has etched into the surface, then a stone restoration specialist must come out to resurface.
