Question ironing "stain"

Well, it's not really a stain... My dd's roomate accidently touched her chair with a hot iron--melting fabric goop onto the iron. She turned the iron off, planning to clean it the next day. Not knowing this, my dd tried to iron her brand-new never-been-worn skirt. Now she has black gunk on her skirt. Any ideas how to get it off? I think the skirt is 100% cotton.

sounds like the heat from the iron melted the fabric again and then smeared it onto the new clothes..a solvent MAY help to improve the situation..blot with rubbing alcohol or a dry cleaning solvent
