Removing rust stains?
Is this even possible? I had a filling cabinet sitting on the carpet and it rusted all around it. It's been like this for a year or more. Thanks

According to the Carpet and Rug Institute, a 1% solution of oxalic acid from the pharmacy should work depending on severity and age of stain. Hardware stores and home centers market this as wood bleach. Test first in inconspicuous area for ill effects by placing a couple drops on carpet. Not all carpet dyes are stable and DIY cleaners can take a toll on dye. After several minutes, if you see no ill effects on carpet dye, blot up with white rag dampened with plain water to remove rust remover.
Take a white rag and wrap around plastic knife or spoon and apply acid to rag to moisten and apply to rust stain. Wait a few minutes to see if stain lightens. Repeat. Always blot, do not rub carpet fibers. Blot from outside stain toward middle to prevent spreading. When rust is removed or no longer gets lighter by blotting with acid, blot area with plain water to rinse. Continue to blot until no more rust is removed. Then, blot with dry rag until carpet is nearly dry. When carpet is dry and if rust stains still remain, repeat the acid cleaning again.
