removing caulk from furniture

I had some windows caulked by my contractor and he smeared caulk on my dining room chair. It is a wood veneer, and I tried rubbing it off, but I can't get it all off. Is there any thing that will remove it?

finger nails or plastic putty knife...any kind of solvent that would remove the caulk will damage the finish on furniture and would have to possibly be refinished

contact the contractor

Test any cleaner in inconspicuous place first for ill effects on finish. If finish is lacquer, mineral spirits should not damage finish.
