I just purchased a coffee table from Ashley Furniture and I tried to use furniture polish on part of it --the aerosol kind with lemon oil, generic, similar to Pledge Lemon. The table was not responding well to it. After a few minutes I was getting a sticky residue in a couple of spots. I got scared and thought I was stripping the finish. I don't even know what kind of finish it is. Apparently they don't know either. I called the store to ask how I should care for my table. They said they have to contact the sales representative. I did check the website and it says it's a "dark painted finish." That doesn't tell me anything. Can someone tell me what I can use to safely clean my 'Concord Vines' dark painted finish table?

When applying wood stain to our fence we managed to get some sprayed on to our upvc window. Any ideas on how to remove this? I understand it will be a stubborn stain - any advice welcome.
