What type of counter top? Did the container leak? Rust stain from the can?

Please identify counter material and nature of the stain. If counter is natural stone, which is porous, stains can be absorbed into stone. A pumice would be required to remove the stain. Problem solving tips for natural stone: http://www.stonecare.com//Shopping/P...spx?CatID=1616

Glade Air Fresheners are blended with fragrance oils. It is likely that you have an oil stain on natural stone.

If stain is on plastic laminate, then an all-purpose cleaner allowed to set on stain may lift the stain.
