Wool Carpet smells like a dead sheep

We bought a wool carpet and it smelled when it arrived. Someone at the vendor told us to air it out side. After doing so, my wife discovers a note that says not to do that or it will smell like dead sheep. Well, it smells pretty awful and want to know how to get rid of the smell permanently!

Any help please????

I'd go back to the vendor - they gave you bad advice.

Truth told, we've had it for three years now and it's gotten worse. It was 'tolerable' at the beginning and now, it's past tolerating. It's almost sour smelling. With the advice come and gone and all that time too, i don't know if the vendor will give us the time of day.

So, any ideas on how to lose the stink if we can't get the vendor to replace?

Nope, your window with the vendor is closed. I'd consult a professional rug cleaner now.

it is smelling like that due to moisture or from previous moisture damage. i would check to see what the humidity level is like in your home...if its above a reasonable level...50-60%? that may be the reason

But with that being said..even if you do control the humidity with dehumidifers the rug will still need professional cleaning to help with the condition
