Question HELP Smoke in house

My fireplace backed up a week ago. We have cleaned everything down, shampooed the rugs and furniture. All is clean and fresh until the electric radiant heat kicks on. How can I clean it or where is it drawing the smoke from and how can I clear it? My wife is asthmatic and this is really killing her.

Thanks for all the advise.

Doug

I would call your local fire department (by looking up the number or stopping by, not by dialing 911) and ask them for a recommendation, as smoke and soot are actually a lot harder to clean than one would intuit. Most jobs people ask about on this site can be good DIY projects but cleaning up after a fire is often not, as it can take products and solvents the average person does not have.

mitch is right...check with your homeowners and go from there...you may need a restoration pro..duct work, walls, ceilings...floor coverings all can be effected..not to mention personal belongings

i would think the baseboard heaters are just causing more air movement and the added heat may intensify the odor
