Is the marble sealed?

It should be, just as all natural stone surfaces need to be

Acid will etch marble

Nothing you can do about that except maybe try to polish it out if not too deep

Marble polishing

I've heard that marble polishing requires a thorough process of grinding and cutting the topmost layer of the affected marble floor...how will it affect the marble...?

I don't like using natural stone for floors because they can be affected by moisture - you can put it in a bathroom but I would not
