We were on vacation for a week and came back to an exploded crab meat can in the pantry. The house still reeks despite using bleach, vinegar, baking soda and Lestoil. Have odor absorbers out including coffee grounds and baking soda. We took out the paper liner and wiped everything down in the cabinet and on the floor. Not sure when the can exploded since it was all dry when we returned. I saw an old post on this from 2005 but wondered if anyone had other suggestions. I can't open the windows for long since I live in FL and it is really humid out.

Had a fridge die on us when on vacations. We were told to use a lemon based cleaner like 409 and coffee grounds. Took some time, but eventually cleared the smell.

We use a product called Zero Odor. Here is a page of places to get, but we get ours from Bed, Bath and Beyond. Works well for us.

It would bother me as well that the can was obviously not prepared well enough. Done properly there should not have been any bacteria in there to ferment. Make sure that company gets a notice as well.

Welcome to the forums.
Pretty scary. Obviously some unwanted product in that can.
The company could use the expiration date and production code on the can if still visible.

A great big thank you. I did go out and purchase a tub of Air Sponge from Ace Hardware and then went to BB&B and purchased the Zero Odor. The smell is almost gone and I am not a nauseous over it anymore. Appreciate your help. I've never had anything like this happen before but I haven't bought that brand before either.

I use Odo-Ban, used to buy it from Sam's Club but stocked up and haven't had to buy any for a few years so I don't know if they still carry it.
