Question remove remains of masking tape from wood surface
OK so I tried putting masking tape on top of the wood mantel to keep the cat off. Didn't work. I pulled the tape off. Now there are transparent fragments still stuck there. How do I clean them off without hurting the wood finish underneath?

Is it part of the tape or just the adhesive? Soap and a plastic putty knife work well for bits of tape, mineral spirits will dissolve and scrub up the adhesive.

I can see through most of it to the wood but its a little thick to be just adhesive, I don't know.

Ya, that's mineral spirits, gas, lighter fluid and other mild solvents will also work. Just get a corner of a rag wet with thinner and scrub.

On a side note your cat wants to be someplace high. If you get a tall "cat tree" for them to climb up on they will go there rather then go on the mantle. Inexpensive ones can be had for about $40.

You could try Goo Gone. it has a nice orange smell.

It should only take a small amount [less than a spoonful] I normally use mineral spirits because as a painter I always have some on hand. Any mild solvent will work. Don't remember if I've ever used 'go gone' but it should work also.

Not normally although some folks are more susceptible to it than others. Again, all you need is to wet a corner of a rag with it.
