Old pee smell

We bought an older lake house. The basement bathroom has an old stale pee smell I cannot get rid of! We don't know if it was a pet or septic back up, or what. We have cleaned and cleaned with bleach, steam, pet enzyme odor removers, etc, replaced the floor and subfloor, replaced the toilet and ring, replaced the baseboards, and with each thing we do, it works for a few weeks and then gradually comes back. I don't know what else to check! The bathroom has beautiful beadboard wainscoting (white) I don't want to rip off if I don't need to. Anything else I can try? It really is driving me nuts.

Welcome to the forums.

Pick up a few boxes (3-4) of baking soda.
Remove the tops and leave them in the room with the door closed.

Once the odor is under control..... a single hidden box would keep it in check.
