Question fixing sticky kitchen cabinets around handles

I have quality, stained, solid wood cherry cabinetry in my kitchen that feels sticky around the handles. I do not believe that its a grease or dirt buildup as they are only sticky around the handles. Is it possible that the finish is failing? What's the best course of action? I read diluted white vinegar was a possible solution but that didn't do anything. The cabinetry is now about 8-9 years old.

It is likely dirt buildup one way or another. Since it is near the handle, where you touch, it's either dirt buildup directly causing the sticky or oils from your hands are breaking down the finish.

Get a clean white rag. Spray the area with a kitchen degreaser. I personally use alcohol but keep an eye to make sure it doesn't attack the finish. Then rub thoroughly with the rag. If you see a dirty, gray brown smudge on the rag... clean some more.
