What's this bar in my walk-in closet?
This is something that the previous owner installed in the master bedroom walk-in closet that I can't figure out what it is. The round bar can be pulled out from or pushed back into the pocket. I use it to hang my shirts, but I'm sure that was not the intended purpose of this bar.

Any idea?

I'd imagine its for hanging the suits, jackets, slacks, etc, (that you plan on putting on immediately) after you take them off the normal rods.

Vic's probably right, but I thought they were to hang your clothes on that you were getting ready to wear on their hangers, so they are in full view as opposed to being up against another suit for example.

Thats what I meant...take the clothes on their hangers out of the normal spot and put them on the rod while getting ready.

I think a good summary of what's been said is this is a temporary rod to be used for a couple minutes and then pushed back in - like when bringing clothes in to put away or while you're getting dressed

Yup its a valet rod. Used as explained. Actually for clothes on hangers. You hang your outfit for the next day or while trying to make up an outfit or while putting stuff away. I sold two to a plumber as he hangs dirty clothes on them overnight so he can wear them the next day. I dont' wash my work clothes every day either.

A local columnist here said one time, a bachelor doesn't have to wash his sheets until they break! Oooh, that's bad. Why is it we can wear shirts one day, socks one day, underwear one day, but jeans are a "weekly" thing? Or am I in the boat alone?
