weird closet design
I'm trying to make sense of this closet that someone has set up as a desk area within the master bedroom. There already is a large walk-in closet, so what this closet was used for I have no idea. It's hard trying to make sense of it, other than the fact it is part of the original structure. Why it was built with the deep area to the right I have no idea. I keep thinking that the shallow area to the left was for hanging space and the deep area for walk-in shelf storage. Then I change my mind and think it must be the other way round. Then I stop and wonder why there'd be a need to make the area deeper, as it doesn't provide any extra square footage for actual storage either way - it just makes you walk in to access the area.
I'm toying with the idea of walling off the deep area to make the closet uniform in depth, then using the remaining portion of the deep part to make a built in set of drawers and cabinets accessible round the corner on the right (the short corridor between the master bedroom and the master bathroom.) The two door cabinet showing in the picture will be removed, and I'll probably put it in the master toilet, above the cistern, as a medicine/storage cabinet.

As long as you don't need the space, and you indicate you don't, I think making an access around the corner to the deep part would make sense. You could still use the hanging part left over for winter coats, etc. without taking up any of your walk in closet space for daily stuff. Now, you get into the size of the space. If it is less than 24", you may have a problem with a door, but if you just use it for drawer/shelf space, then it's a go.
