Unhappy Phone from second floor to first

What is the best method to run a phone line from my bedroom to the room just below it?

If it's an exterior wall you can drill thru the 2 wood members on the top and bottom of the floor-joists. You'll need a bit 24" in lenth with a diameter that "clears" the diameter of the cable.Set the point of the bit on top of the base-board with the bit parallel to the wall and drill straight down thru the "sill" and the "plate", approx. 16".

You'll need a steel "fish-tape" to send down thru the holes into the partition ,and you'll have to "hook" the end of the tape at the point on the floor below where you want to connect the cable.

Without seeing it, it's hard to say. Every house is different, you have to get creative - we're not just technicians, we're Artists

An inside wall will be much easier to run a line through, there's no insulation to deal with. Either way, it'll be a pain for an "amateur" to run the wires (sometimes it's tough for an experienced tech to do.) Like I say, it depends on the house. If you have another room on the same floor that shares a wall or even close, then you would be better off running it from there (you could possibly go through the crawlspace?) Running wires vertically can be really tough (what happens if you run into a cross-member in the wall?)

Good luck!
