CAT 5 & Coaxial Tester?

Im finishing my basement and have about 8 runs of coax for cable/sat and 16 runs of cat 5. I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a lan tester for these or some other easy way to test the connections? Locally I can't find a tester for anything less then like $80, I've seen some online but am concerned about buying a cheap $30 item.

If I buy a device to do this it's probably going to be a one time use, but would be handy to have around, so I don't want to spend more then $40 on it.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

Paul

Check your local tool rental places. A couple of them locally have them, some electronics stores have them for rent, as well. (admittedly, this is a college town).

www.compgeeks.com often has one for about $20, but I can't find it on their website right now. I have it and it works fine. The $30 ones you are finding on the net will probably work. They are not a complicated tool.

Thanks for the info. I ended up getting one for about $40 and after getting it was amazed that these are nothing more then glorified continuity testers. Still useful to have, much easier then lugging a computer down there to test it!

Thanks again
