Question changing phone jack to primary line

I want to know how to change an existing phone jack from a secondary phone line to my primary phone line. Is it possible to do this myself instead of waiting a week for the phone company to do it? Thanks, CA

If you look inside your network interface, typically a gray box outside the house, you will see terminals for each active line. Unplug the jack in the NID. Move the wires from line 2 to the terminals for line 1. Replug the jack in the NID and test using a phone at the jack in the house.

More than likely, the above method is not going to work, couple of reasons:
1) The house may not have a star topography (instead it has a daisy chain topography - all jacks are looped)
2) The jack is probably wired for Line 2 (or the Black/Yellow wires) to the Line 1 output (Red/Green screws)

You'll probably have to rewire the jack to get Line 1 back. But, you should probably check the jack first, to see how it's wired.

For more info on wiring phone jacks and how to do exactly what you want, take a look at:

Good luck!
