Extension phone problem

When my wife and I both are talking to someone on the phone, they usually have a problem hearing one (or both) of us. This seems to happen when she is in her sewing room and I'm on the other phone. We've changed phones in both locations, but the problem doesn't go away. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks

Do you know how the phones are wired? If the wires are daisy chained from one location to the next, this could account for the problem. A better way to wire telephones is to use a star pattern, whereby all the phoines are wired directly to a main connection block that connects directly to the phone company NID. You might try this if your telephones are daisy chained.
