Running Communication & Data w/ High Voltage

Can someone tell me if I can run Cat5 with high voltage wiring? Or is it smarter to have separate holes running through my joists for each type of wiring?

No, it is not OK. The Law forbids the two from being ran in the same raceway and physics doesn't care too much for it either. Data is succeptible to crosstalk and high voltage is the crosstalk culprit. Keep at least 6 inches apart. I would seperate them by a foot.

2 out of 4 is bad

I have 4 phone jacks in my house. 2 are connected to a network interface system (both uses the red and green wires connected to 'Line 1' via screw down) and the other two are conncted to an old system (it has a ceramic base with a black button-like thing). The 2 jacks that are connected to the old system work but I get no dial tone with the other 2 (i tried both the jacks and plugging the phone directly into the NI). My question is how can I get all four jacks to work on the same line? please help.Read More

I have a total of 5 phone jacks in my house. I only have one activated right now, for use of a standard phone line. I would like to "turn on" the other phone jacks and have them be active with my existing phone line. AT &T charges $130 to come out and do this for me. Is there an easy way to do this myself?Read More
