How do I test my home phones ringer?

When I used to live in England, I could use a british telecom number that would (after hanging up) call my number back to test the ringer, is there such a number used by Qwest in the USA, that I could use to test my home phone ringer, without calling someone to call me?

The reason I asked this, is, I have a modem in a computer that has called id, but the only way I can test it, is by using a call back number that would (after hanging up) would call back, then the id info should show up on the computer caller id.

Thanks for the memories

Before the break-up of Mama Bell, as kids we use to use that # for pranks (receiving fake calls from girls, teachers, parents...)
But not for a loooong time now

Check with Qwest though, maybe some individual phone co's offer it

The BT number I used to use in England wasn't really supposed to be known to the general public, so maybe the number qwest use when using their handset to test the line, should be given out either.

Maybe someone reading this post may have inside info.

it varies from central office to central office. 112 takes you to a test board in my central office with verizon one of the options there is "ringer test"

some CO you can dial your own number and then hang up

I just tried and it still works on my CO

other than that just ask telco employees when you see them

Here in GA (Bellsouth) the number is 780-2311.

Not sure about the rest of the country.

Where are you located? That may help some.
