Poor Sound Quality

Hello, we recently moved into a home wired with cat5 cabling for the telephones. We have two phone lines from the phone company and 2-line phones, some cordless and some not. Line 2 always sounds good. Line 1 sometimes sounds terrible to the point of not being useable- the sound is distant for both us and the caller. The phone company has been here and stated the phones inside and outside meet their specs. The installing company has been out and can't pin point the problem. But still, we feel line 1 is of lesser quality. Thank You.

have you tried swapping cable pairs so line one is on a diffrent pair ?

have you tried swapping the lines going into the phones so that two becomes one one becomes two ?

have you tried it with only one phone on the line then adding phones one at a time

I would put my money on one or more of your phones most two line phones are crap

Have you also tried connecting a phone directly to the NID test jack to see if you still have problems?
If not, try it. If you still have noise/static/etc., then call the phone company back - it's their problem from there.

If you do not have problems at the NID, then it's somewhere in the house. Since you only have 2 lines, I would try swapping the wire pair being used. Your contractor should know how to do this.

Good luck!
