What the heck is DBS?

I'm looking for a video module for OnQ and it seem there are DBS and non-DBS models. Can anyone tell me the difference? Also, what goes to 2GHZ, or should I just get it in case I need it for the future?

I have heard of this in the pbx industry. But am not 100% sure if it relates to the video industry. DBS refers to Digital Business System. So mabye your are looking at the difference between consumer equiptment or business? Hope that helps.

I called a local OnQ dealer and they didn't know what DBS stood for other then they use that module on all the OnQ installs. So I still don't know what it does but for a few $$'s more I went ahead and ordered it.

DBS is used in a dual LNB Satellite installation - where you need the satellite feeds, plus cable feeds to all locations.

Phone issues - help!

OK, our home was built in 1952. The phone lines leave MUCH to be desired as the previous owner appeared to be crazy or something. I have traced about 10 lines all over the place. The line that went to the master bedroom up 2 flrs from basement went outside and along 2 walls of the exterior. I severed it when I tore down the deck and we went over it with vinyl siding. My issue is: I have bought and returned about 3 phone systems. I now have a 3 phone digital 2.4GHz Southwestern Bell that is expandable to 4. Therefore they all run off the same wall jack but are in chargers around the home. I paid about 110$ for this. No matter what I put there, I get bad reception, or a hum, or when a call comes in, I hear a wicked echo of my own voice. NOW, the line I traced to the outside junction box has 3 areas of those red tab press individual wire connectors holding together. Then that goes to a junction box in the middle of the basement, which then branches off across the basement and to the outlet. Is this "crosstalk" (echo) and hum coming from bad wiring or should I inquire with the phone company to fix this. I plan to redo all the phone wiring in the future but am tired of having crappy phone conversations. Was I better off with either a line phone or a 900MHz where this issue may not be so pronounced? testing voltage on phone line

I am considering changing my land based phone line over to the internet service. (Vonage like company) I want the ATA device to connect to my home wiring however, so I can use the three extensions already in the house. I have looked in my phone box out on the side of my house and I have two 4 strand phone lines coming into/out of the customer side. One 4 strand wire goes into the ground along side the foundation with a bigger thicker cable and the other 4 strand wire comes into my house. I have two lines in my house and I only want to disconnect one of them as one is personal and one is for work. The box on the side of the house has two blues wires from this four strand cable hooked up to a jack, and the other two wires (I think they were orange) hooked up to another jack. Then there is another 2 blue wires coming form the ground hooked to a third jack. This is all on the customer side of my phone box outside. If I disconnect the first set of blue wires, which I think is the circuit I want my phone internet connection to go on, will that disable PSTN voltage in my house for the two blue wires? Also, to test voltage in the phone line, how do you use the Multimeter, what setting do you put it on?Read More
