How to tell if I have a second line?
Hi. I just bought a house (built 1998) and a phone jack in the office is not working. I suspect the previous homeowner may have had a second phone line, and this jack was wired for that line. This could explain why this jack isn't working. Alternatively, perhaps the jack is simply malfunctioning.
So how can I tell if my house is wired for a second line, and if so, whether this jack was wired to that line?
Thanks for any advice.

take the jack off the wall that dosent work and see what colors are connected to the red green wires now go to a working jack and look
hook the non working jack up to the same colors as the working one
probably working jacks are on white/blue or on red/green
non working is probably on white/orange or black/yellow
or
go outide and find your NID/demarc open it up and see if the cables are connected to two seprate terminals if so connect them all to the working one
