New House - Connecting Telephones
I need help.
Just had a new house built. I have 5 telephone jacks wired with yellow CAT 5 cable. All of the 5 cables terminate in the basement.
I had the telephone company come and they installed the NID on the outside of the house. They want hundreds of dollars to make the connections inside.
I am only using the lines for telephone and for my computer/moden. I judt don't know where to start to put everything together.
What supplies do I need. Is the some kind of hub or block that I connect all five telephone wires to, and then connect the line from the NID to the hub?
I still need to check if the NID has a line from it into the house, the telephone company did not come inside.

Marko - you can go to Home Depot or Lowes and get a 110 or 66 block to hook up the phones.
You will probably need to route a telephone (cat3) wire to the outside service box and then hook this up to both your block inside and the outside service box.
Check the phone jacks throuhout the house to see what color wires the jacks are using so that you use the same wires. A single telephone number only uses 2-wires so make sure to use the same 2. If 4 wires are hooke-up then hook-up the same 4. This just gives you the ability to have a "double line" if needed.
Good Luck
