DSl and no dial tone

Since starting dsl our 2.4 and 5.6 ghz cordless phones get no dial tone. We can receive calls and can dial out #s that don't start with a 1 . Verizon say the problem is not them - it is the phones. Have bought new phones that also get no dial tone. HAve a cordless 9oo mHz which works. Have tried the 900 phone on the 2.4 jack and the 900 works - have tried the 2.4 on the 900 jack but still no dial tone. So can't be the filters. Any ideas?

Try No Filter

Try Them Without The Filters. If They Work Its The Filters Try Leaving Them Out. Maybe Everything Will Work Ok. Some Times You Dont Need Filters Even Though Your Supposed To Have Them.

no dial tone after dsl installed

I'm a dsl tec with another phone company. There are some 2.4 gig cordless phones that are incompatible with dsl. Just found out this info. Don't know yet how to solve the problem, but will let you know.

Have bought 5 other phones - bought 2 Panasonic s 2.4 and 5.8 - neither worked. Then a Uniden 900 and a Panasonic 900 .The Uniden worked but not the Panasonic. Bought another Uniden 900 and it works. Looks like it may be make of phone! Panasonic and GE incompatible with DSL.

Glad you found the problem. I still don't know how to solve the problem with certain cordless phones. I'm sure the brains are working on it.

Do you by chance have a wireless router installed to go with your DSL, or does the DSL modem include a wireless router?

Wireless routers can cause problems with cordless telephones. This is a documented problem, and one reason to avoid wireless.

ADSL Works. Voice Line Works. Just not at the same time!

Solved on Mar 26, 2005

Suddenly the voice line stopped working while ADSL is still fine. The Telephone Company people came over and tested (the line I assume?) bit by bit from outside the house in. They ended up plugging my telephone (that was plugged to the computer of course) to the small box where I plug my modem, and then the voice line worked in all four phones (otherwise, when I call I get a busy signal). This is the main difference I see between my case and all those [i]DSL works, Voice line doesn't[/i] threads that I see around here. So we can use ADSL or the voice line by changing the way they're plugged, but that's it. The Telephone Company people said they'll send the ADSL Company (owned by the TelCo) people over next week and that it might be a problem with the modem (Cisco Systems 677) and in that case it could end up costing $700 (to replace the modem that I was first lent for free with the ADSL service and then forced to buy for about $60 to be able to keep it indefinitely a few months ago). The Telephone Company is well-known for trying to rip off their customers so I don't feel too keen on just nodding along whatever they say. Is there anything I can try / test until the ADSL people come? Could it be something about the computer or the Ethernet card? (I switched to a new computer with a new ethernet card shortly ago. Phone is dead and then not at the NID

Hey, For the last two weeks or so, we've had the dreaded "DSL works but phone line is dead" problem. I plugged in a phone at the NID and got a dial tone. I checked all the jacks, none work. Someone else on this board reported the same problem and had a simple loose connection at the NID, so I unscrewed the red and green terminal screws then screwed them back in. Voila! The phone works. Then 2 days later, the same thing happened. I do my trick again, and it works again. This has happened about every two days for a couple of weeks now. Yesterday when the phone went out, my trick stopped working. Unscrewing/screwing in the terminals no longer works. That leads me to believe that the problem is "in the box", but I don't know what I should do next. Any ideas? Thanks, JTRead More
