Removing a standard phone jack/wall plate
Greetings...basic question:
We're putting up some bookshelves in our living room, and there is a small phone line jack/wall plate on the baseboard...long story short, it is in the way of the shelving.
We'd like to remove the jack (as we don't even use a landline phone) but not sure how to do that. It is wired up through the floor from the basement...I don't think I want to remove the phone wiring all together, but my (potentially unfounded) vision is to:
- remove the wall plate
- pull the main wire down through the floor into the basement
- "cap" the wire and just leave it stapled to basement ceiling
I use the term "cap" because I don't really know if that's possible...so I guess that is my question: can I just cap the phone line? what do I need to do it? are there other, better solutions?
Thanks for any input!
