Vonage is a Voice over IP phone service or an internet phone
It's one of many companies offering the service right now
There have been around a while now an are probably one of the better ones

need some ideas for filtering dsl

currently in my house there are only two phone jacks. this is unacceptable to me. i am planning to run a cat 5 cable from the nid outside to a closet in the 2nd bedroom. there it will hook into a "telephone distribution block" and plug into a 24 port patch panel. i will have runs to all the rooms in the house and whatnot. my question is, i am looking for a way to split the dsl signal so that i have all the ports running from the phone distribution block filtered and then have one port that is not filtered for the modem. plan 1, take the primary run and wire it into a "wall jack" and split it there, filtered side goes to distribution block, unfiltered side goes to modem. the only thing i dont like about this idea is that it wont follow suit with everything else. i want everything to be the same so i would like to have the dsl modem plug into the 24 port patch panel. i got 24 ports, i definetely wont have 24 phones so it wont be a big deal to "waste" a port. the filter will have to be in front of the distribution block because i dont want 20 little filters hanging off the patch panel. any interesting ideas on how i can do this?Read More

Hello all; got an old house with old phone wiring. The phone wiring from the wall has 8 wires; blue with white stripe white with blue green with white white with green brown with white white with brown orange with white and white with orange. I have a modern phone jack with the four color posts: red, green, yellow and black. Does anyone know how these map out properly, or where I can search for this info? Thanks!
