HELP...No phone after terminating cat5e lines.

My house is wired with cat5e cables and jacks (t568a standard) and I am wanting to use these on a home network. I found where all the non-terminated cables were and terminated them on rj45 jacks (keystone variety). After doing so, I can no longer get a phone signal from within the house (plugging a phone in at the outside box works fine.) Data connectivety seems fine from all jacks. Only phone is down. Any ideas from anyone who has had similar problems? I'm pretty sure of the lines as I have tested them with a ideal vdv multimedia tester and they pass.

Somewhere you shorted the lines together. Isolate the problem to a specific location and then redo those connections.

I have recently determined that the phone lines are ok...it's when I have a pc plugged in that my phone craps out. My girlfriends laptop is ok...only a pc.
Any ideas?

Or the modem in you PC has given up the ghost and when you plug it in, it shorts the phone line. You said the modem on your girlfriends laptop works fine... so my guess is that it is the modem in your PC.
