Can I do this?

I recently purches a townhome where only two phone jacks worked. The ones that don't work do not have the wires connected to the jacks. What I noticed was that my house seems to have all of the jacks wired in series which I understand is fine. At each of the unworking jack sites the insulation was stripped from the wire exposing each individual wire. Then short lead wires were sodered onto each indiviual wire so that it could be connected to the jack. Well all of the lead wires are to short to reconnect to the jack.

I want to know if I can cut the main wire so I can remove the mess of sodered wires and then reconnect both the ends of the wire to the jack and have the jacks down the line still work?
