Need Communication

We built a barn and are looking for some way to communicate between barn and house, so the neighbors don't have to hear me shouting back and forth.

If you have electrical power out there, you try a cordless phone that has intercom capabilities. There are models that have multiple base units (only one needs a phone line) and allow intercom capabilities between the units.

Good idea, that means that it needs to be connected to our phone line. Is that correct?

Only one of the units needs to be connected to a phone line, which would be one in the house, unless you have a phone line out to the barn.

well actually it doesnt need to be connected to the phone line if all you want is intercom capability .

if you run cable to the barn there are all kinds of intercoms scenarios that you could rig up

you don't even need a cable run if you have AC power out there, which most people do... just get one of those intercom units from Radio Junk and plug it in at each end.. they work fine, not expensive...

He was refering to Radio Shack. You could also buy a set of those walkie talkies. They have them now that get up to like 5 miles.

sorry, I've called it that for so long, I just typed it in without thinking about it.. used to be, there was a time that is, that you could actually buy something electronic, or components, or a useful item at Radio Shack... now, it seems like your going into a 5 & dime store.. other than the little ICM's and such, and of course they now deal cellphones..

You could also just buy walkie talkies which I think are great but they won't give you dial tone.

well, for that matter, the newer cordless phones have intercom built into them.. so you have your phone and your intercom system.
