Statewide ARMER Trunking System

I haven't heard a peep from the State Patrol for about a month so I did some reading on the internet. It seems they may have gone to this system, so my scanners will become paperweights if the sheriffs follow. I did read a while back they will be closing the sheriff's dispatcher center in Virginia and move it to Duluth by the end of the year. I'm having bad feelings right now.

My Radio Shack Pro-2045 will pick up some of the 800 MHz band, not sure about this trunking business yet. More reading to do.

If I'm reading right, in order to hear this trunking stuff you need a fancy scanner like a Uniden BCD996XT which is almost $500. Yikes, that will be a thousand for the house and garage.

Anyone care to shed some light on this, in simple terms?

Thanks

If they are going digital, as my area did a few years ago, your old scanners will be dead as far as listening to police/fire calls.

Another problem would be if they decide to encrypt the system. If they do that, you still wont hear anything - even on a digital scanner.

I would suggest that you do an Internet search for scanner clubs in your area. They usually have the latest info.
