Fax Machine "Poor Line Condition" on cable phone service

I have a dedicated fax line phone number through my cable provider (Cablevision). It's worked fine for years, but lately, it will seem like a fax went through, but then the transmission verification will print out and it says "Poor Line Condition".

Any thoughts about what could be causing this?

Thanks

Is there noise on the line when you connect a basic phone (or listen on the fax machine's handset)? If so you have to rule out the house wiring as the source of the noise. Plug the fax directly into the cable demarc. If the noise is still there call the cable company.

There is no noise on the line, dial tone is clear as a bell. This FAX machine has been operating in its current location and configuration for many years. This line strength issue just started happening ......

First thing to try is a new line cord. Also try spraying some contact cleaner into the jacks on both the telephone jack(s) and the fax machine input jack. If this fails then definitely call the cable company.
