Phone Line
Hi, sorry if this has been disscused. I couldn't find it in the search portion of the site. I have a bad phone line in my house going to the phone box. I have enough thermostat wire to re-wire it. My question is t-stat wire isn't too big to run to a phone jack is it? It's 18ga. wire as opposed to 20ga phone line. My main concern is it has to run outside and I'm not sure if regular phone line should be exposed to the elements. Thanks for any help.

I have back in the days before data used low voltage landscape wiring for buried phone lines and it was probably #16. In the old days before paired phone wire it was 18 gauge 3-conductor so I see no problem if you are connecting to screw terminals.

Thanks Ray. After some more research I have found out that a cable for the phone
company has gotten wet. That is what is probably causing my problem, but I will do one more test when I get in from work. Thanks again
