Simple Message App?

Just switched from a Java OS phone to Android. The text messaging app was very simple to use on my old phone. Message came in, tone sounded, I looked at the phone there was my message with a button that read Reply. Simple easy intuitive.

Well the messaging app is no so intuitive and easy on
the Moto E 2nd Gen I switched to. Can anyone recommend a really easy app to replace the included app?

The Moto family of phones are good. We all have the G5plus at our house. Regardless of the brand I don't think you'll find as simple a app as you had. They all have lots of bells and whistles. My advise is go to the app store and try several out till you find the one you like. As with anything, once you get use to it, it will become second nature.

Android is usually pretty easy but many manufacturers are now putting their own UI on top of the OS and that usually makes things more complicated; it's the thing I hate most about my current phone since I think the Android UI is just fine.

Next challenge now is an audible ring for each new Email even when the phone is idle. Googling says to turn it off in menu but I see no menu, three lines or gear in the Gmail header.

FWIW, the three lines is called a Hamburger Menu.

Not that that helps you right now....

We solved it by downloading an SMS/MMS app called messages. Not perfect, but OK and well tested.
