I have received the September issue of PC Magazine. The title is "Old Apps Find a New Home on Win XP. It is an article about running DOS programs with XP. The article in PC Mag starts by 1. select properties. Use Compatibility tab to set color to 256 mode. Disable the default visual themes 2.Copy Config.nt and autoexec.nt to the directory of the programs you want to run. Rename .sys and .bat. Edit these files as needed. 3. Bring up the properties dialog for the file you want to run and click on advaanced button. Enter the config and autoexec files and XP is supposed to run these in its own customized enviornment. 4. You can also click on the Compatibility Mode and select the OS best suited for the DOS program. XP is suppossed to activate a set of patches called "shims" the makes XP treat the program like earlier versions of Windows. Does anyone know if this will allow me to run my DOS programs with XP. I am holding off buying a new computer unitl I settle this problem. Thanks

hello i have an hp paillion with win 98 2nd ed., 56k modem, and use compuserve 2000. all is going well but i would prefer not to have to see all the clutter and ads. i am not in a hurry and live on a retirees pension. would it be to my advantage to use a ?router? all i want to do is get on line, then with my outlook use mail, and surf the web. routers sound like they move thins on line and i wonder if they could move me on line etc as i have explained. thank you peterr
