I have just put win98 back on my harddrive and Internet Explorer won't save the log on password, for logging on to the internet.

It will do that if you have the client for microsoft networks set as the primary log in, and you click cancel. You'll need to change it to the regular log in (not the client), then at the next boot type any user name, and no password. It should be fine from then on.

Easy checks:
1. Logon (IE Browser settings).
2. Login >Start >Log off "Username"
No Network Username - no password remembered. Log Off - Log On
