USB Hub

USB Hub
I purchased an external 4 port Belkin USB Hub (Pocket Hub) for my Celeron PC (original USB technology). Works great most of the time. Sometimes, the hub stops communicating and is brought back online when I disconnect the USB conenction from the hub to the PC then reconenct a few seconds later. Then it works ok for a couple of hours.
Is there a setting I am missing (no driver required for this device), or is USB unreliable or unstable.

I was having the same problem until I realized that the connection was coming loose due to the normal vibration of the case (fan). If you will look carefully at the usb port on your computer, you will see that there are very small tabs that can be moved inward (a flashlight is really handy for seeing these). Move them carefully inward a little (and just a little or the usb end won't go in there anymore) and see if that tightens up the hold on the usb end when inserted into the port.
If this doesn't correct the problem then it may be something else. Please post back and let us know what happens.

I was not able to find the tabs you mentioned. But that doesn't surprise me since i have a somewhat cheepy computer. Anyway, I switched the USB Hub connection from a USB port on the back of the computer, with one on the front. It seems to have helped. Maybe its a bad USB connector on the PC.

What kind of machine to you have? I run an eMachines. I have a port on the front, and one on the back. The little tabs are so small that I don't know how to describe them to you. Maybe I can find a pic somewhere online and you can see what I'm talking about. I just happened upon them one afternoon while trying to figure out how to make the usb connector to the hub stay put.
I used to use the one on the front for my camera, but since I burnt the fuse in the power supply, I just purchased a different tower case, and power supply. eMachine power supplies are too small, and to replace them is too expensive since it isn't a standard size. In the new case, the 'front' usb is now in the back.
anyway, I'll still look for the picture online so if anyone needs to understand what I did to help the connection they will know.
Hope moving the usb to another port helped your situation. Right now I'm hoping that my husband picked up the correct cpu cooling fan. Mine is going out, pretty much is out, and I shouldn't even be running my machine without it.
