Low Virtual Memory
Don't know exactly what is going on, got message about low virtual memory but found I have 1300 mb showing.
Is there a way to find out what is running in the background that would cause this?
I had my brother help me get rid of Gator - really ate up space, 427,000k!
I have Windows 2000 and do alot of cad work. Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Check in "Control panel/system/advanced performance options". This will tell you your Virtual memory settings. For CAD use, which produces pretty large files, it should be around 200 Mb minimum. Maximum as much as you can afford, at least 300 Mb. If you don't have this much free space, time for a cleanup.
By the way, I think you are confusing things. 1300 Mb sounds more like your free disk space than VM.

ejones,
Thanks for replying. I did what you suggested and here is what it said;
When I clicked Advanced and went to Performance Options it said that Virtual Memory - Total paging file size of all drives: 1300 MB
Then I clicked Change which brought me to the next screen displaying the Drive (Volume label) and Paging File Size (MB)
Drive Paging File Size (MB)
C: 1300 - 1622
Drive C Space Available 33,599 MB
Initial Size (MB) 1300
Maximum Size (MB) 1622
Total Paging file size for all drives
Minimum Allowed 2 MB
Recommended: 766 MB
Currently allocated: 1300 MB
Registry Size
Current registry size: 27 MB
Maximum registry size: 200 MB
So far, no more messages, is there something that could have caused this? It seems that I should have alot of virtual memory!

Little space theives
If you use IE for browsing the WEB, right click the blue 'e' and go to Properties, delete cookies and history (may want to change default days down to ~3 to 5 days).
This is assuming using Windows 9x/Me.......... AND you DO NOT STORE passwords to automatically log into sites. {If you do, write down URL/login name/password and store in safe place.... you will need to log into Doityourself later after this clean up.}
Go to c:\windows\cookies and delete everything except the user.dat
Go to c:\windows\temporary internet and delete everything.
This may also help your swapfile issue.

Wow.......1300Mb swap file!
From what you sent it sure looks like your swap file is 1300 Mb minimum.
Mind you, that won't hurt anything, as you have 33 Gb free space.
Actually, I just thought of something. Run a defrag on your hard disk. With a 1300 Mb swap file, if your disk is badly fragmented, this may cause problems. Something in the dark recesses of my brain tells me swap files need contiguous space. If it cant get it you have problems.
