my buddy has a problem when he goes to load his computer his norton anti-virus tells him his computer crashed.its a old computer i believe its called a western he doesn't have any discs for the computer all he has is windows 98 disc is there anyway we can delete everything and reboot it any answers please respond thanks he needs all the help he can get doesn't have the money for a new one or to take it to get fixed.

If he has Win98 INSTALL CD (not the update CD), he could do a fresh install. Have you tried running in Safe Mode and disabling Norton yet? That's where I would start, before completely wiping out the computer. To do this, press F8 after you hear the post beep at startup (just before you see the Win98 startup screen.)
You could probably uninstall Norton OK, then reinstall after you get it running again.
If you really want to start over, from a clean disk, restart with a startup disk and run "format c: /s". This will make the disk bootable and also clean everything off of it at the same time. Make sure you have the CD drivers on the floppy before you format, or else you won't be able to use the CD after you format. You need to have the cd's ????.sys device in Config.sys and the MSCDEX.EXE file in autoexec to enable the CD rom from startup.
