Cool "Honey, I Shrunk The Formatting Taskbar"

I have a Dell XPS400MHz, Pent II, 128MB, 12.9GB, WIN 98 with Publisher 97.
In Publisher, the formatting taskbar has been shrunk to the size of a couple of postage stamps wide and I can't get it to re-size by clicking and dragging the double-arrow. I can move it around, but that's about it.
I am computer illiterate, so please keep it simple, if you can help me.
What have I done, and how can I correct it?
Thanks. Mike

If it has a blue title bar at the top try double-clicking on it. This may open it up larger than you want. As well, if it has maximize/minimize buttons (underscore/box located at upper right hand side of title bar) you can try clicking on those. If the formatting has none of these, you can try closing/reopening the format bar. Usually with Microsoft products, you can show/hide different optional bars like the format bar from somewhere in the menu.

Cool

Sorry. None of the above is working.
Do I need to uninstall and reinstall Publisher 98?
If I do, will I loose any of the Publisher files?

mike,

i've attached a couple of links that you might want to check out:

http://support.microsoft.com/default...EN-US;pub98faq

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;182852

The 2nd link shows a way to reset the toolbar; please be careful when following the instructions when editing the registry. You should ALWAYS back up the registry before making any changes to it (there's a backup registry option in the menu when you use 'regedit').

If the above does not work, the uinstall/reinstall should reset everything. You may lose your customized publisher files when you do so; you should be able to locate and back up most customized files and copy them to a different location; after reinstalling publisher, you can simply copy/overlay the files back to where you copied them from.

Did you try dragging the toolbar to one side of the page? Some of them will attach and go back to their normal length.

Cool

Doug,
Yes. I've tried everything that I know short of uninstalling/reinstalling.
I checked out those sites above, but my stuff doesn't come up with the same thing as the directions on how to reset the toolbars in Pub 98 (editing the Registry).
?

Sorry, the 2 links I showed earlier got mangled when I cut/paste them. Here they are again:

(general help)

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;en-us;pub

(how to reset toolbars)

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;182852

In the future, you can look up help topics on Microsoft's web site. Go to www.microsoft.com , click on Support and choose Knowledge Base. They have one of the most extensive collection of help files for people to sift through for their products.
