Is XP stable enough to dump Win 98?

Is it time to upgrade to XP? I have windows computer here. My wife uses and curses it when it freezes in mid-application, trying to shutdown, trying to boot, trying to play some online java games. It is part of a Linux network, but that is not a problem. I have grown weary of fixing this and that with win98. Bad dll, corrupt vxd, error in module xxx. Her games crash while mine run on without error.

If so, do I upgrade or start over with a fresh disk? Which is preferable?

It is a Giga-byte board with AMD Athlon 750, 512 MB ram, 60 GB HD, NTS burner. She uses it for office type applications, web surfing and online java games.

upgrade to winxp pro if possible and always start with a formatted drive. i do not recommend installing an upgrade. you'll be much happeir with winxp than any other windows version.
