Mozilla Messenger (Linux)
I've somehow gotten my mail program acting funny. I don't remember chaning any of the settings, but may have and not remembered. The problem is when I try to forward an email, the program shuts down.
Does anyone have any ideas of what might cause this? I hate to switch over to Konqueror because I can't seem to configure it to work the way I'd like it to work. Fonts are weird, and some pages load differently and I can't read them.
I miss my Mozilla!

Installed, no. I did hook up my palm cradle. Things have been going a little wacky since, but not immediately afterwards. I also can no longer burn a cd, which was the first problem I have encountered. I think that was because I tried to make some changes in there (program: K3b).
I've also had a few other programs crash on me, and now it also takes me a couple of times to log off, and boot into windows due to the fact that when I click log off user, then get the list of users, I click reboot instead of a user, and usually there's my lilo list. Sometimes its not there. It is, however, always there when I reboot instead of a reboot into a specific mode/os.
Oh, I did plug in my card reader (Lexar flash media reader) while the system was off so maybe it would get it at the reboot. I've used the card reader before with no problems, but it still can't find it. This is why I've been trying to boot back into windows so I can read the memory card from my camera.
I'm afraid that it could be several things. I gave myself a lot of permissions when I set Linux up (Mandrake 9.1) and later added my kids as users. I didn't log what permissions were granted to all users, so I'm not sure what they've been able to do to the system. They can't log in as root, that's a given.
I did remove/reinstall Mozilla and Messenger. It still crashes in KDE desktop environment, but I logged in under the Gnome environment and now I can forward mail? I could forward email using Evolution and KMail as well under the KDE environment. I don't forward a lot of mail, but sometimes I receive information that I've gathered for someone else and its easier to forward than to recompose the message (I did, however, learn that I could edit it as new and send it that way).
I've had wonderful luck with Linux until now. I don't like booting into Windows since it is so slow, and I'm already freezing up in it. Its a pretty new install too, rarely used and on a separate drive.
I'm just not sure where to start looking, and what am I looking for. I am still very new to Linux, and haven't had much reason lately to learn about issues like this with Linux. I know that this is something that I've done since it was running near flawlessly before.
Thanks for the help!

10.12. Help! I can’t access my e-mail any more!
The two common causes of e-mail problems in Mozilla Mail are:
1.
Some test builds of Mozilla have been known to improperly compact mail folders, rendering the mail within unreadable by Mozilla Mail/News.
2.
The mail summary files (files with the .msf extension) have become corrupted.
In the first case: the mail files are stored as plain text, so you can try opening the mail files with a text editor (or word processor) to recover the text of your e-mail by hand.
In the second case: exit Mozilla (including Quick Launch), find the folders in your user profile that contain your e-mail (the Mail and, if you use IMAP, ImapMail folders). Back up your mail folders, and delete the .msf files. Do not delete files that appear without any extension – these are the files that contain your actual e-mail. Restarting Mozilla Mail should automatically generate new summary files.

Kay,
Here is a listing of mail problems with Mozilla. This may serve as a jumping off point.

Its Mozilla 1.3.1
More freaky things going on. I came in this morning and my desktop was up? I just changed my password to all numbers. Okay, not a problem other than I locked the screen before I left. My window notification area was gone too. Also, my email program was closed out (Evolution at the moment). I leave it open since I check it off and on during the day.
I'll check in to the things you mentioned in the posts and try them. I may have to put a physical lock on the computer like I'm going to have to do on our phone.
I'll also post back the results.
Thanks!

I'm hoping that its just the ID10T button (me
). Now I can forward mail (after dele of .msf files) and restart of messenger, but it won't check my mail when I hit the check all mail. Plus, even though I have it set to remove the mail from the server, its leaving it there?
I'm using Evolution now. I guess I'm going to have to learn to configure it, plus work on my Messenger at the same time. Such a bother. Once I get this settled then I will work on why the burner isn't recognized, etc.

I've checked the getmail side. arghhh. Newest problem. The camera listed is not correct. When I try to delete it, KDE control panel crashes. Hmmm.
Will try going directly to periphials and see if I can dele it that way instead of opening the whole control panel.

In the control center, go to hardware and see if the device is listed. If so, run the config tool and see if that helps.
Alternatively, run the wizard for GnomeMeeting or whatever you are using with the camera, and see it that will get it running.

I got the camera removed going the configuration file. I'm not sure how that particular camera got listed, not actually a camera but something else. I don't want to go back and find out LOL.
I'm slowly but surely working backwards in my mind as what I've added or taken away lately. I also haven't had a chance to upgrade Mozilla yet. Its acting differently right now too. Some of my configurations are gone? Like the center click on the mouse no longer opens a new tab instead of window. Not too bad, however. I will keep working with it.

darndest thing....
I got the camera deleted and then I go to open Messenger, and no email accounts? That was weird. Am wondering about the camera deal.
It is listed as: USB PTP Class camera
Not sure what PTP stands for, but now that is unloaded Mozilla is back, but as it was when I first installed Linux. Am having to go back and reconfigure it, which is fine. Curious as to why that particular camera deal would cause these problems.
Haven't tried to burn a cd yet, and still checking to make sure messenger is checking mail, etc. properly. Its still not getting all messages, but I may not have it configured correctly. I'll recheck that.

update
So far everything is going well. Still haven't worked on the CD burning deal, but that I still believe was changes I made to the program the last time I was burning pics.
After removing the camera that wasn't actually there, and removing/reinstalling Mozilla I haven't had any more problems. Even LILO shows up as it should. The problems, I believe, would have been resolved by simply removing the camera instead of reinstalling Mozilla. The reason I say this is because even after reinstalling Mozilla, the problems were gone, but until I removed the camera itself the new Mozilla didn't take over.
** explanation: I removed Mozilla, but after reinstallation I still had all my account settings and files. Still had the problems of mail not being checked on certain accounts and the mail being left on the server. After removing the camera, Mozilla began fresh again. It checks mail, removes it from the server and even sorts the mail correctly.
Thanks guys! Great help. I downloaded the newest version of Mozilla but am not sure how to install it.

Firebird
Still can't get Mozilla 1.4 installed. Bummer. Oh well, did get Firebird going and I really like it. A lot lighter-weight than Mozilla, but runs off the same engine.
Seems a lot faster too. Must be because it doesn't have the added things, like the email program trying to run off it too.
I'm also trying Balsa for my email program. Of course, you know me, can't sit with one thing too long and there are so many different programs out there to try!

I installed Mozilla 1.4 the other day. It looks pretty good. I am trying the mail function to see how well it learns and filters spam on its own. For some odd reason, it crashes when I try to load the crossword from yahoo. I am still working on that.
Lots to try and see.

Quick question about browsers, and email programs. I am trying to figure out how to get KMail to open a link in a current Konqueror browser. This is one of the reasons that I don't use KMail, it always keeps opening new windows instead of the current one. Am I missing something?
I am also having trouble controlling the KMail html feature. I would like to receive emails in html, but some (such as yourself) don't like receiving html and I can't figure out how to change it around. I have this control in Mozilla.

In Kmail, click Settings, click Configure Kmail, select Security Icon on left, the presented page has check options for receiving mail in HTML and loading references from the internet.
In Kmail, click Folder, select Prefer HTML.

Okay, that's done. How do I control whether or not the email goes out as html or plain text?
Also, I keep getting error messages when I try to install Mozilla 1.4 through the control panel. Says it needs some files I don't recognize. I guess I should take a screen shot of what it says. The way they're listed it seems that they're missing out of the actuall rpm file?
